About our work

When war and insecurity take hold, women bear the heaviest burden of violence, poverty and inequality. They are the targets of systematic sexual violence, which is used as a weapon to terrorise and destroy communities.

Women for Women International helps the most marginalised women who live in extreme poverty, are directly affected by violence and conflict, and endure myriad forms of social and economic disadvantage.

We work to reduce violence against women, help women gain economic power, and provide them with the tools to build a brighter and more peaceful future for themselves, their families and their communities.

Our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme

Our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme builds women’s capabilities in four key areas: earning and savings; rights and decision-making; health and wellness; and fostering support networks. Women receive hands-on vocational training in a variety of sectors and are supported to start small businesses, build networks, and to take on leadership roles in their communities.

The Women for Women International programme was my ray of hope. It felt like I was finally completing my education which was cut short by poverty.

If someone had told me in the past that I would need to restart my life from scratch, I couldn't believe it. But that is what happened to me when I needed to flee to Poland with my son.

Being in the programme, I enjoyed having the space to connect with other women in the skill-building and social empowerment classes. I was learning things that I never imagined I would have the opportunity to learn in my life.
