Working with Yalea to Support Women Survivors of War
We are deeply grateful for our partnership with Yalea. Since 2021, they have been supporting our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme - first in Nigeria and now in Afghanistan.
Thanks to Yalea, 100 women in rural Nigeria were enrolled in our year-long programme in 2021. They were able to form support networks, learn to earn an income and save money, and gain knowledge about health and their rights.
Now, Yalea supports 150 women to join our year-long programme in Afghanistan. This partnership helps some of the most marginalised women from Parwan, in the east of Afghanistan, to learn social and economic empowerment skills in training on topics such as business skills, financial literacy, household decision-making, health and wellness, stress management and psychological first aid, support networks and rights awareness.
The programme also provides a safe space for women to connect and support each other in dealing with the isolation that continues to increase for women in Afghanistan. Women for Women International has been working in Afghanistan for over 20 years, and we continue to stand with Afghan women, finding safe ways to serve them and meet their needs despite restrictions by the de facto government.

Learn more about our work in Nigeria & Afghanistan
As we resume operations in Afghanistan, the country is facing a new emergency. International aid has been frozen and the country is on the brink of economic collapse: the banks have run out of cash, there is no money to pay salaries and not enough food for people.
Grace and Hadiza are two brave women who are challenging norms and making their voices heard as they advocate for change in their communities in northern Nigeria. Using radio, they are helping women to speak up against gender-based violence and empowering them to get the medical and legal support . Graduates from the Stronger Women, Stronger Nations Programme, these two women are an example of what can be achieved when women believe in the #PowerToChange accepted norms.
