Goal 1: No Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

21% OF WOMEN PARTICIPANTS REPORT SAVING A PORTION OF THEIR EARNINGS

TARGET 1.5: BY 2030, BUILD THE RESILIENCE OF THE POOR AND THOSE IN VULNERABLE SITUATIONS AND REDUCE THEIR EXPOSURE AND VULNERABILITY TO CLIMATE-RELATED EXTREME EVENTS AND OTHER ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENT SHOCKS AND DISASTERS.

21% of graduates of our programme in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq reported saving a portion of their earnings, compared to 31% at enrolment.

Women in Iraq especially were especially impacted economically by the impacts of COVID-19 and the lockdown period. Women in Iraq had to utilise any earnings for their daily expenses. This also led to having to access any savings they’ve already set aside.

Goal 2: Zero Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

88% OF WOMEN GRADUATES REPORT NO FOOD SHORTAGE IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS

TARGET 2.1: BY 2030, END HUNGER AND ENSURE ACCESS BY ALL PEOPLE IN PARTICULAR THE POOR AND PEOPLE IN VULNERABLE SITUATIONS, INCLUDING INFANTS, TO SAFE, NUTRITIOUS AND SUFFICIENT FOOD ALL YEAR ROUND.

63% OF WOMEN PARTICIPANTS REPORT PRACTISING FAMILY PLANNING

TARGET 3.7: BY 2030, ENSURE ACCESS TO SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH-CARE SERVICES, INCLUDING FAMILY PLANNING, INFORMATION AND EDUCATION.

Women on our programme in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq reported sometimes or frequently practising family planning (63% at graduation compared to 66% at enrolment).

The reason for this decrease is also due to the lockdown period, during which women did not have agency over these decisions.

Goal 4: Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

46% OF SCHOOL-AGED GIRLS (5-17 YEARS) IN SCHOOL

TARGET 4.1: BY 2030, ENSURE THAT ALL GIRLS AND BOYS COMPLETE FREE, EQUITABLE AND QUALITY PRIMARY EDUCATION LEADING TO RELEVANT AND EFFECTIVE LEARNING OUTCOMES.

Many of the women we serve have never completed primary school due to discrimination in their communities that undervalue girls and blocks them from opportunities. Increases in education for girls is a positive sign of change across generations.

Women graduates of our programme in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq reported that 46% of girls were in school compared to 47% at enrolment.

Children were still not attending school when some endlines were collected for 2020 graduates due to school closures and the lockdown still being in place.
