Celebrating the power of global sisterhood with song

Music plays a transformative role in bringing communities together

Before the Coronavirus pandemic forced us to socially distance and stay indoors, a group of our dedicated supporters travelled to visit our programme in Rwanda. In collaboration with our programme participants, they recorded a beautiful collection of songs in Kinyarwanda, the local language, and English.

2020 has posed countless challenges – which are felt even more tangibly by the women we serve. Women in countries affected by conflict are especially vulnerable to social and economic uncertainty.

In a year when many of us are physically apart from loved ones, we wanted to share this special project with you – our global community.

Together, we forgot about our poverty. We dance and sing together. We love each other. We assist each other if we face problems.

"My favourite song is "Pure Water." The song talks about women's rights. By singing it, women will learn their rights," shares Akaligo, Sing Your Heart Out volunteer (not pictured). Photo: Aidan O'Neill
