Leaving No Woman Behind
The Global Goals are underpinned by a commitment to ‘Leave No One Behind’ – which means that the very success of the Goals is dependent on reaching the most marginalised. Three years into the Goals, and ahead of the 2019 Global Sustainable Development Report, Women for Women International is concerned that women affected by conflict are being failed by the Goals and are continuing to be left behind.
2019 HLPF and the UK Voluntary National Review
The 2019 High-Level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF) took place in July 2019 in New York. The HLPF is the main United Nations platform on sustainable development and it has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. As part of its follow-up and review mechanisms, the 2030 Agenda encourages member states to conduct reviews on their progress towards achieving the SDGs, and this year, the UK government presented its first Voluntary National Review (VNR).
As part of our advocacy on the SDGs, Women for Women International attended the HLPF and contributed to UK civil society efforts on providing its own analysis of the UK’s progress on the SDGs, including through our contribution to a recent report by Bond, the UK international development network. We also responded to the UK VNR and the UK parliament's International Development Committee’s on the Review.
Our Response
17 JULY 2019| Women for Women International responds to the UK’s first Voluntary National Review of progress towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and the International Development Committee’s report on the UK VNR released yesterday.
Our Global Advocacy Manager, Stephanie Siddall, discusses global progress towards gender equality and what more we must do to ensure that the most marginalised women and girls aren't left behind.
Our work delivering the global goals
The Global Goals provide us all with the opportunity to do more to support women affected by poverty and conflict, to enable them to determine the courses of their lives and reach their full potential. Read more about how we are working towards achieving The Global Goals.

One of my friends told me about Women for Women International and how it provided training for women. That’s when I learned that I wasn’t alone in my suffering. There are other women, who have the same pain.

I know that I should take courage because I survived a hard situation. Every day, I have to wake up and pray and say, thank you God, for I’m still alive. It was hard but now I’m here.

During the sessions on decision-making and women’s rights, my eyes were opened. It made me appreciate myself more as a human being.
