The most important gift you'll ever make

When women use their power, they reinvest it in their families, their communities and their countries to make the world more peaceful and prosperous.

When you give to Women for Women International, you do more than support one woman — you create a ripple effect that reaches far and wide, magnifying the impact of your gift.

The gifts we receive today allow us to meet the immediate needs of the women who need it most. But did you know there are gifts you can make that will create an everlasting investment in women?

When you include a gift to Women for Women International in your will, you create a permanent gift that will continue to help women survivors of war and conflict. Your impact will be felt for generations to come.

We believe that your loved ones come first. You shouldn’t have to choose between taking care of your family and the causes you care about. Designating just 1% of your assets to Women for Women International may allow you to take care of your loved ones first and foremost and invest long-term in the women we serve.

A lasting legacy

When a woman graduates from our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme, she:

  • Becomes a role model in her home, showing her children the importance of challenging gender norms, so they too can build a brighter future for themselves.
  • Becomes an educator in her community, sharing what she has learned with others, creating a supportive sisterhood
  • Becomes a leader and change-maker in her community, standing up for her rights and paving the way for others to follow in her footsteps.

That is her legacy. It could be yours, too!

What type of gift could you make in your will?

After taking care of your family and loved ones, you may choose to include a gift in your Will to Women for Women International. There are two main types of gifts that you might consider including in your Will and dedicating to women survivors of war: cash gifts and residuary gifts.

Cash Gift

A cash gift, also known as a pecuniary gift, is a fixed sum of money - for example, £5000. Cash gifts are paid out of your estate first. What is left is then divided according to the instructions in your Will.

Residuary Gift

This is a share of your estate - for example, 10% or 1/3. After ensuring loved ones are taken care of, you can leave a percentage of your remaining estate to Women for Women International. Residuary gifts can also help reduce your inheritance tax. Speak to your solicitor if this is something you'd like to consider.

The Impact of your Gift

Your gift will have a tremendous impact on the lives of the women we serve.

  • It could provide even more Afghan women with agriculture toolkits that can help them grow produce to feed their families and earn an income.
  • It could provide critical emotional support and therapy sessions to women who have experienced unimaginable physical, emotional and sexual violence.
  • It could pay for Advocacy Training for groups of women, so that they can drive change, decision-making and leadership in their communities.

  • Residuary gift (also known as a percentage gift) - this is a proportion of your remaining estate after all other gifts have been paid out (for example, 5%)

How you phrase your Will depends on what type of gift you want to make. Your solicitor can help you with more specific, or complex gifts.
