Our Ambassadors

Women for Women International's ambassadors play a key role in helping women survivors of war rebuild their lives. Ambassadors use their platform to raise the voices of the women we serve and shine a light on the issues faced by women in some of the world's most dangerous places.

Dame Helen Mirren

As a strong woman and powerful advocate for equality, Dame Helen Mirren is an inspiration for many women the world over, making her perfect for the role of Women for Women International’s Ambassador. Dame Helen Mirren is one of the world’s best known and most respected actresses with an international career that spans stage, screen and television. She has won many awards for her powerful and versatile performances, including the Academy Award in 2007 for her performance in The Queen and in 2003 was appointed a Dame of the British Empire.

Why I support Women for Women International

“Women bear the brunt of modern conflict. Many experience torture, brutality and horrific sexual violence. Their basic rights, freedoms and dignity are often targeted as a tactic of war. With the rise of brutal armed conflicts and extremism we are currently seeing unprecedented levels of violence against women, which means there has never been a greater need for the work of Women for Women International to support women survivors.

Women for Women International has demonstrated over the past 20 years that when given the tools, resources and knowledge to access livelihoods and protect their rights, women can transform their families, communities – and ultimately help build more stable nations.”

I’m delighted to be able to lend my support, and hope to help Women for Women International reach many more women in need around the world.
