Set up a Student Society

OUR STUDENT SOCIETIES

Students are some of our most passionate supporters

Our Student Societies work together throughout the academic year to raise funds and raise the voices of women survivors of war.

From campus feminist festivals to intimate film screenings, mitten knitting workshops to clothes swaps, and high heeled runs to sponsored jailbreaks, there truly are no limits to their creativity!

Every £264 raised by students allows them to sponsor a woman through our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme, so she can gain the skills she needs to build a brighter future for herself and her family.

Why not start your own? Starting up a student society is a great opportunity to:

  • Shape and lead on your own programme of fundraising activities
  • Gain experience and key skills (boosting your CV!)
  • Contribute to a cause you care about and make a difference

We'll give you all the support you need to get started. Email Julia jvieyres@womenforwomen.org to start a conversation about setting up a society at your university today.

ST ANDREWS WOMEN FOR WOMEN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SOCIETY

FOUNDED IN 2013

Since their inception, St Andrews Women for Women International Student Society has supported over 120 women survivors of war through our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme.

Maret Zillman, St Andrews society 2023/2024 president, shares: “As president of the Women for Women St Andrews Society, it is a great honour to be surrounded by so many inspiring women who are passionate about supporting our Sisters in Iraq and Nigeria in building a better future for themselves and their families.”

5 TOP TIPS FOR GETTING STARTED:

  1. Get in Touch - Email Julia on jvieyres@womenforwomen.org to discuss the exciting opportunity of setting up a new student society.
  2. Start Networking - Tell your fellow students about Women for Women International’s work and encourage your campus to get involved!
  3. Advertise - Start thinking about representation at Fresher’s Fair! It’s the single biggest opportunity to get your name out there, recruit new members, and collect new contact details, so make the most of this day or two.
  4. Follow Up - Keep the students who have shown interest in the society engaged by sending them an email following the Fair. Make them part of the operation, tell them how the Fair went and share an inspiring video about Women for Women International’s work.
  5. Host a Launch Event - Organise a launch event soon after the Fresher’s Fair. Your event should raise awareness about women in war torn countries, and will hopefully motivate members to stay actively involved.

Our past RAG partners

We're proud to have built a passionate community of student supporters by partnering with some of the UK's biggest Raising and Giving Societies (RAG). From glamorous fashion shows, to Race2 challenges, Skydives and more, our students are never short of ideas when it comes to fundraising for women survivors of war.

Since 2019, our RAG partners have raised over £57,000 for women survivors of war. That means 216 more women were able to enrol onto our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme and gain the skills they need to rebuild their lives.
